Stumpy Lake: A Flood Event

 Upon researching information regarding flood data for the Stumpy Lake Watershed, I was not able to find any definitive statistics. Due to this, I geared my research towards a particular weather event which did, in fact, cause flooding of the reservoir. Check out the following slides pertaining to this:

Stumpy Lake Mapping and Delineation

I have created a map of the Stumpy Lake Watershed using Google My Maps. Due to the fact that this watershed is located mostly within urban residential divisions with very little change in altitude, I referred to the City of Virginia Beach government map and used the stormwater drainage basin system to follow the pipes leading to the lake.

Adventures in Watershed Stewardship


Hello everyone! I am excited to embark on this new adventure exploring the Stumpy Lake watershed. My name is Rachel Rife and I am currently a student at the Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability, a division of Virginia Tech. Pursuing a Masters in Natural Resources, this semester I'm enrolled in a Watershed Stewardship course. Throughout this semester I'll be adventuring around Stumpy Lake here in Virginia Beach, VA and blogging about all of my findings and discoveries.
